We hosted
our second BBQ of the season to benefit St. Jude today. This is just one of our
many fundraising efforts for St. Jude that we host throughout the year. Some of
our other events include bake sales, raffles, silent auctions, bingo, bags
tournaments, cookouts and more.
But this
isn’t just an excuse for us to host fun events throughout the year, and we didn’t
just pick a random charity out of a hat to support.
Over 13
years ago our employees banned together wanting to do something more for the
greater good. After researching a handful of charities, it was put to a vote in
order to find the charity that most represented OSG as a whole.
With
overwhelming solidarity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital won the hearts
of the employees with their mission to prevent and cure pediatric cancer, and
other deadly diseases, through research and treatment. Throughout their 50-year
history, St. Jude has successfully pushed the childhood cancer survival rate
from 20 percent to 80 percent, sharing all the breakthroughs they make to
doctors and scientists worldwide.
The money
OSG raises goes directly to the cost of treatment, travel, housing and food for
St. Jude families, as St. Jude never bills them for any of these costs.
“It’s
wonderful how many people recognize St. Jude and are willing to do what they
can to help contribute,” stated Sherri Tiani, Corporate Controller for OSG. Since
our commitment to St. Jude in 2006, OSG employees, along with OSG’s company
match, have raised well over $100,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital.
So while
a small donation for a bake sale or BBQ may not seem like a lot, it truly adds
up in the end, making a difference to the children and families who need it.
