On the Job with: Ron Portwine

Featured Employee: Ron Portwine

Title: Operations Manager

Tenure with OSG: 7 years

Our operations manager at the new Atlanta office doesn’t take no for an answer.  With his “go for it” attitude and dedication, Ron Portwine is always striving to learn and be better than the day before.

Ron has a desire to grow outside of the office as well. At home, he is Mr. Fix-it and always tries to improve his handy skills. He also enjoys a good game of golf, because the nuances of competing against oneself forces honesty and integrity - two characteristics that are important to him.

His passion and perseverance extend to his home and spiritual life. His faith, his wife and two daughters are what keep his life in balance. Priorities in Ron’s life are important, which he recognizes as: “First God, then job, then family, and finally self. God gives me my abilities for the job, without the job I could not take care of my family, and, of course, always take time for yourself.”

On the Job with: Tom Schlueter

Featured Employee: Tom Schlueter

Title: Senior Production Control Planner / QA Supervisor

Tenure with OSG: 36 years

During Tom Schlueter’s 36 years with OSG, he has worked his way from Machine Operator all the way up to Senior Production Control Planner and QA Supervisor at the Parma, Ohio office. No matter what position he is in, Tom believes in always doing his best and the importance of honesty. These traits have certainly helped him grow at OSG over the years.

In order to do his best, Tom relies on and values his teammates, saying that they are “what makes everyone’s future bright” at the company. He is often complimented on his training skills, which helps the team continue to grow and develop.

When Tom isn’t planning production control, he’s coordinating family trips to Disney World. He always puts family first, spending as much time as he can with his wife, daughter, and two puppies. The work and home life balance is hard to achieve, but Tom’s years of experience have taught him that simplicity is best, and that even “a visit to an antique mall on a Saturday afternoon” with his family can make all the difference.

Featured Employee: Sherri Tiani

Title: Corporate Controller

Tenure with OSG: 24 years

Citing her kids, family and friends as her passion, Sherri Tiani strives to keep her life balanced by prioritizing and spending time wisely between work and home. Just recently, Sherri spent time apple picking with her kids to enjoy the fall season, recognizing it as a great way to have fun no matter what your age.

With almost 25 years at OSG under her belt, Sherri continues to want to learn and grow and be the best at what she does, remaining open to change to make things better for the future. When life gets busy, she looks to her hero, her mom, for inspiration.

“She’s 73 years old and has a busier life than I do. She is strong, smart, caring and always wanting to lend a helping hand. I don’t know where she finds the energy to keep up, but I hope to have the same energy when I’m her age.” If all else fails though, Sherri admits, “a good trip to the spa helps.”

On the Job with: Vicki Stevic

Featured employee: Vicki Stevic

Title: Production Control Supervisor

Tenure with OSG: 19 years

If there’s one thing that Vicki’s tenure with OSG has taught her, it is that hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed.  But those things do not stop at the doors of OSG for Vicki. With her main focus being her three children and raising them to stay on the right track, she recognizes how much discipline and organization it requires to neglect neither work nor her family.

Vicki admits that her mom is her true hero, looking to her for inspiration. “She came to the United States at the age of 18 after marrying my father without any family of her own. She learned the language, raised two children and ran the household, always while working a full time job. She is an amazing woman, wife, grandmother, mother and friend.”

Although Vicki’s personal goal is to live a healthier life through food and exercise, her passion will always be her family.

On the Job with: Meghan Zimmerman

Featured employee: Meghan Zimmerman

Having been with OSG 2 ½ years now, Meghan has learned a great deal from her previous experience in customer service and her participation in continuous training classes offered by OSG.

But when Meghan is not exercising her mind at work, she enjoys small weekend getaways with her husband, especially anything involving the great outdoors.

From horseback riding to long walks and bike rides through the forest preserves of DuPage, Cook and Lake Counties, she delights in the fresh air and tranquility that comes from being one with nature.

“It’s our favorite hobby in the fall months as the leaves turn to brilliant colors of yellow, orange, red and purple.”

Meghan also enjoys drawing natural landscapes as well, finding it has a calming effect, but her other true passion is animals. With a unique infatuation for dogs, cows and horses, Meghan would one day love to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science.

On the Job with: Tim O'Sullivan

Featured Employee: Tim O’Sullivan
Title:  QA & Inspection Supervisor
Years with OSG:  11

Much like his hero and inspiration, Arnold Palmer, Tim O’Sullivan is driven by hard work and dedication.  While Palmer rose from a blue-collar background to dominate a sport traditionally ruled by the white-collar upper class, Tim has risen up the ranks at OSG, learning that his hard work and determination would open doors to new opportunities.

Recently starting back at school to pursue a Master’s Degree in Project Management, Tim spends whatever free time is left with his family or golfing. While he also enjoys riding his bike on the trails and cooking up new recipes, he admits his true passion is golf.

“I love to golf as much as I can during our short golf season.” His personal goal is to record at least one birdie in all 50 states, Mexico and Canada. “I currently have eight off of the list, so I still have plenty of travel and golf left to accomplish. Next up is Ohio.”

On the Job with: Kelly Briggs

Featured Employee:  Kelly Briggs
Title:  Customer Service Manager
Years with OSG:  19

Working for OSG for almost 20 years, Kelly has learned the importance of loyalty at the workplace. She believes in committing yourself to the company and fellow employees.

But when she’s not at work, you can find her spending time with friends, relaxing on an annual vacation or cooking up a storm in the kitchen, “I really like to cook.  I just love it when you can throw something together, it turns out just the way you planned it and it tastes delicious.  Then when other people eat it and enjoy it, it’s like a little gift I’ve just given them.”

Kelly attributes her love of cooking to spending summer vacations at her grandparent’s lake house. After helping her grandma make all the sides and salads for dinner, she would then head out to the grill and barbeque with her grandpa as well.

“My hero has always been my grandpa.  He was the best role model for me in my life…Grandpa always believed in me.”

On the Job with: Dan Dimenza

Featured Employee: Dan Dimenza

Title: Warehouse Manager

Tenure with OSG: 34 years as of May 2, 2014

What are you passionate about outside of work?
The Blackhawks—I watch every game! Became a staunch fan of the team as a kid and never veered! Will never forget how Bobby Hull led the Black Hawks to the Stanley Cup in 1961.

Your hero, either real or fictional, is Bobby Hull, right?
Without a doubt! Back then, Bobby was bigger than life! Personally, I consider him as the greatest hockey player of all time. I saw him play at the Chicago Stadium…unbelievable! He had a 120mph slap shot and could skate almost 30mph, hence the nickname “the Golden Jet”!

We work to live, not live to work, so how do you keep your life in balance?
For me, what keeps my life in balance is exercise, namely weightlifting. I started lifting weights before it became popular in 1975, and lift daily. Having my own set of weights at home helps.

What is the most important thing you learned throughout your career at OSG?
OSG management from the start has shown great respect for me, my family and fellow employees, like we are all extended family. This family atmosphere is alive and well today at OSG.

What is your secret talent?
Knowledge! I learned how to do every job I was afforded and always sought to do it well.
